November 23 - December 21

As we step into Advent, we each arrive carrying different things—some heavy, some light. No matter what’s in your hands or on your heart, God is big enough to hold it all and invites you to hold it in the light.

HERe

  • Counseling: Sometimes we need help working through stuck places and moving toward health. We provide scholarships for anyone in our community to help with the cost of visiting a counselor.

  • Care Cabinet & Laundry: At Discovery, Barn Door Coffee offers a warm, welcoming space where our unhoused neighbors can enjoy a cup of coffee, a hot meal, and access to our Care Cabinet stocked with snacks, hygiene items, and warm clothing. We also distribute laundry kits—with detergent pods, dryer sheets, quarters, laundromat directions, and a kind note—to help restore dignity and hope through something as simple as clean clothes.

  • Benevolence: Discovery's Benevolence team has shared over $60,000 this past year to keep families housed, feed the elderly, support and bring hope to those living in cars or temporary shelters. Yet so many still struggle unseen. Please pray, give, and step in where you can. We may not be able to fix every situation, but we can show the heart of Christ in every act of compassion.

Near

  • Whiz Kids helps disadvantaged elementary school kids with weekly tutoring, mentoring relationships, and spiritual nurturing.

  • Night Lights provides monthly respite nights for families with children with special needs in our community. Children with special needs and their siblings are invited to attend.

  • Young Life builds impactful relationships with junior and senior high students by going where they are: school, sports, clubs. They provide a safe place besides church where they can meet Jesus.

  • HopeKids provides ongoing events, activities and a powerful, unique support community for families who have a child with cancer or some other life-threatening medical condition.

  • All Stars: The All-Stars Club provides a place of belonging centered on fun, friends and faith for friends with developmental disabilities, all while parents and caregivers are given the opportunity for respite.

Far

  • Compton, CA: Bob and Susan Combs have been serving in Compton for over 28 years. Susan believes Compton has given them as much as they have given to Compton. Their ministry works to “develop Compton's next generation of leaders who will passionately pursue a more just community.” Their work is through three areas: Leadership, Economic, and Community Development. They want people to know that the situations Compton youth are put in do not define them.

  • Paraguay: Dan and Christie Reich have been serving with SIM Paraguay for over 20 years. They started out as church planters and most recently are serving in a new capacity by mentoring, encouraging, and walking alongside rural church leaders throughout Paraguay.

  • Costa Rica: Discovery partners with Praying Pelican Missions to support two pastors and their churches in Costa Rica. Pastor Nelson’s mountain church is a beloved community hub, with recent construction—supported by Discovery—creating a beautiful space to connect with God. Pastor Jesús leads Hosanna Parrita, a church passionate about serving their community, especially children. Our student ministry will visit them in 2026.

  • Albania: Discovery has partnered with Ylli and Nikki Doci in Albania since 2008, walking alongside them as God has led them into new roles—now with the International Leadership Foundation, developing leaders. Through the Docis, we also partner with Cru staff in Elbasan, who invest in university students and introduce them to the love of God. We’re grateful for faithful friends across Albania.
