PILGRIMAGE
More than a trip
our pilgrimages are spiritual journeys that engage your whole life.
The spiritual journey is not an aimless wandering but a steady movement further into the heart of God. Sometimes this journey engages our mental, spiritual, emotional and relational lives. However, there are other times where it engages our physical lives as well. As Thomas Merton said, “The geographical pilgrimage is the symbolic acting out an inner journey. The inner journey is the interpolation of the meanings and signs of the outer pilgrimage. One can have one without the other. It is best to have both.” We offer these pilgrimages not merely as ‘vacation trips,’ but as experiences including learning, relational development, and spiritual preparation that will begin months before departure. Each of our pilgrimages has a distinctly different focus:
Tulsa
This experience is designed to take a deep look into racism and lament in a distinctly American journey that engages Native American and Black American history. Our intent is not only to grieve the sins of our collective past, but also to consider what justice and reconciliation look like not only in a social context, but also a spiritual one as well.
Camino de Santiago
Also known as ‘The Way of James,’ this network of trails throughout much of western Europe lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela - the alleged resting place of St. James. More than a simple walk to see a relic, this pilgrimage engages spiritual formation practices, church history, and opportunities to serve fellow pilgrims along the way.
Israel
Experience how the Bible in 3D as you see the places where Jesus taught, stand in the Garden of Gethsemane, and touch all that is left of the temple wall that Solomon built in Jerusalem. This trip is certainly an educational experience with a heavy bent towards Bible Study and physically experiencing the land of Scripture. Expect to return home with a whole new way of imagining and understanding the context of the Bible.
