a journey that engages God along the way to a sacred or special place
On November 19, 2022, a gunman entered Club Q in Colorado Springs, killing five people and injuring 19 others. In the aftermath of an act of such hatred and violence, it can be difficult to know how to respond.
Our instinct can be to move quickly toward celebration, positivity, or distraction—to numb the pain and confusion rather than sit with it. But Scripture invites us into another way. God is not afraid to linger in places of grief and lament. He meets us there, and He draws near to those who are hurting and vulnerable.
Throughout Scripture, we see God's heart consistently move toward those who are marginalized and at risk of being overlooked or harmed. In the story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus calls us to see the dignity of our neighbor and to move toward those who are suffering rather than away from them.
We believe every person bears the Imago Dei—the image of God—and therefore possesses inherent dignity and worth. This includes our queer family, friends, neighbors, and fellow human beings.
This pilgrimage to Club Q is an invitation to slow down and pay attention—to grieve, to listen, and to be present to what has happened in our community.
We come not to offer easy answers, to fix what cannot be fixed, or to make a statement. We come seeking to encounter the heart of God in a place marked by both profound grief and profound human dignity.
This is not an opportunity to evangelize or to make a public statement on behalf of Discovery Church. Instead, it is an opportunity to ask a quieter and more important question:
What does it look like for us to embody the radical love of God—both as individuals and as the community of Discovery—in the places and among the people God is already inviting us to see?
We come to grieve.
We come to listen.
We come to be present.
We come on pilgrimage.

**COST**: there is no cost for this trip other than gas for the car ride to and from Colorado Springs. You are of course more than welcome to carpool with others, but please know that some drivers may want the contemplative space of the drive down and back to be alone.
