The Social Justice Stream - The Compassionate Life

Read and Listen:

At the start of his ministry, Jesus read from the prophet Isaiah:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me…
to bring good news to the poor,
freedom for prisoners,
sight for the blind,
and release for the oppressed.”

These words point to Jubilee—a time when debts were forgiven, captives were freed, and people shared what they had. Jesus was announcing God’s kingdom: a new way of living marked by love, justice, and restoration.

Jesus showed this life through serving others. At the Last Supper, he washed his disciples’ feet and taught that true greatness comes through humility, community, and love.

This is the compassionate life:
not just talking about love,
but living it.

A compassionate life refuses to look away from suffering. It cares for the hurting, stands with the oppressed, and works for healing and restoration—even when it costs something.

Spiritual Practice:

A spiritual practice is a simple way we make space for God to shape how we live. This week, practice the compassionate life by noticing someone who is struggling and choosing one small act of care—listen well, offer help, share what you have, or speak encouragement. Small acts of compassion can become signs of God’s love in the world.

One practical approach:

Take a moment of your day and consider what God has gifted you with and how you can be generous with that today? Consider making a donation to A Precious Child or a similar organization. Oftentimes, the things we take for granted are a huge blessing to those in need.
